Must Read Monday: Must Read Books About Math

I'm linking up with Kindergarten Planet and The Kindergarten Connection for Must Read Monday: Must Read Books About Math!

My students LOVE these books.  They are all great for a unit on non-standard measurement or when opening a new unit on measurement.  The author compares wacky things. For example, 21 skunks, with a little luck, stand as tall as 1 garbage truck. It spring-boarded us into questions: How many markers tall is the door? How many glue sticks long is the rug?

I stumbled on this book while student teaching.  It's great for multiplication, arrays, and problem solving.  Amanda loves to count and she would love to count faster.  She isn't convinced multiplication is a faster way to count until she dreams about it.  It's a great read aloud to stop and solve problems with the class or look for arrays around the school.

This book is part of an Everyday Math Lesson.  I was a little unsure about it but my kids love it.  The king needs a new bed for his queen but nobody knows how long to make the bed.  They measure with their own feet and make many mistakes until they figure out they need to measure with one person's foot.  We practice measuring things with different kids' feet and my own.  They love comparing the difference between our feet.
